Project: Pocket Neighborhood Development
Location: Just off Main Street, Downtown Weaverville, NC
When a local developer approached Red Tree Builders – Alair Asheville with a vision for a thoughtfully designed pocket neighborhood near the heart of downtown Weaverville, we saw an opportunity to create something truly special. In partnership with architect Maria Rusafova of Rusafova Markulis Architects, and Perch Plans out of Austin, TX. we brought that vision to life.
Each home in this collection was designed with a modern farmhouse aesthetic and a clear goal: to balance neighborly connection with a sense of privacy. Though the homes sit on compact infill homesites, careful attention was paid to window placement and layout to ensure residents enjoy both community and personal space.
The result was a harmonious blend of intentional design and smart development – homes that “talk” to each other in style and scale, yet avoid the repetition of a cookie-cutter approach. Primary living spaces were placed on the main floor for ease and accessibility, while outdoor and indoor views were shaped to respect sightlines between neighbors.
One home from the neighborhood, built in collaboration with Perch Plans out of Austin, TX, earned national recognition with a NAHB Best in American Living Award in the Single-Family Production/Spec, Detached Home 2,001–2,500 sq. ft. category.
Red Tree Builders – Alair Asheville led the design and development of the project from start to finish, aligning the homes with both the developer’s goals and the spirit of downtown Weaverville. With walkability to Main Street, timeless design, and a layout that celebrates both privacy and community, this pocket neighborhood stands as a successful model for infill development done right.
